Welcome to our newest project in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.
When our client purchased this 3-bed, 2-bath top-floor condo, she was starting with a true blank canvas. The apartment had beautiful natural light and great bones, but little personality. Our goal was to transform the white-box space into a home that felt like her - layered with color, art, books, and thoughtful details that support her love for hosting as well as her everyday life.
One of the first things our client mentioned to us was just how many books she had in her collection. Instead of hiding them away, we wanted to give them a starring role. We designed a custom floor-to-ceiling bookshelf that wraps around the sofa. The millwork creates a sense of enclosure within the open layout, defining the living space while celebrating her impressive collection of novels, catalogs, and art books.
We used a warm wood finish to ground the room against the light flooring, while soft peach and terracotta hues draw out subtle tones in the wallcovering behind the sofa. Deep seating, plush throw pillows, and ambient sconces make for the perfect reading nook.
Throughout the apartment, we introduced vintage pieces to bring depth and personality to the newly renovated space. Our client loved the look of this vintage chair (left), but the original fabric was in need of a refresh. We reupholstered it in a rich gold velvet, which adds a layer of texture and color to the space. The vintage Swedish side chair (right) offers a playful seat that’s as sculptural as it is anything else. The height of the back helps it hold its own against the larger pieces of furniture without being dwarfed. (And despite its funky shape, it’s surprisingly comfortable!)
Rather than squeeze a dining and living area next to one another, we approached the space with flexibility in mind. Along the window, a custom bench provides additional seating for gatherings without overwhelming the room. The built-in element feels architectural and intentional, creating opportunities for entertaining while preserving the home’s openness.
Across from the living room, a doorway leads into the home office. Though compact, the room works hard. A corner desk positioned by the window maximizes natural light, while a daybed serves double duty as both daytime seating and an additional guest room. Because the apartment originally relied almost entirely on overhead lighting, we layered in decorative plug-in sconces and lamps throughout the home, creating a softer, more inviting atmosphere.
Our client has an eye for artwork! She has built a gorgeous collection, and we thoughtfully integrated existing pieces throughout the apartment, making every room feel personal and collected.
In the primary bedroom, we focused on creating a sense of calm. Warm neutrals wrap the walls, while soft green tones applied to the ceiling and flooring create balance and visual depth. The wall sconce provides overhead lighting (without having to go through the hassle of putting power in the ceiling). An oversized headboard anchors the room to create a cocoon-like retreat at the end of the day.
As a space that isn’t used every day, guest rooms offer an opportunity to be more adventurous with color. The large windows in this room allowed us to go with a well-saturated color. We color-drenched the room in a muted sienna hue inspired by pieces from our client’s art collection. The carpet, nightstands, and headboard play off the warm terracotta tones for an inviting guest experience.
As a top-floor unit, our client has a unique NYC luxury: a private roof. We designed dedicated lounge and dining areas, creating the perfect setting for summer dinners and weekend gatherings.
