As we step into autumn, we wanted to share a little peek into how our team spent the summer. Whether it was revisiting hometowns, exploring far-off destinations, or discovering hidden gems close to home, each trip gave us a chance to slow down, soak up some inspiration, and return refreshed. Here’s a roundup of our summer getaways - consider it both a travel diary and a collection of ideas for your next adventure.

Eliza, Design Director | Summer Destination: Sicily, Italy
“What was most surprising (and exciting!) about Sicily was how many different cultures have influenced the island over time. You're in Italy, but there are Greek and Arabic and African influences that can be seen, tasted, and heard all over the island. Architecturally, if you can get to Agrigento to see the Valley of the Temples, it's a must! The ruins of some of the oldest Greek temples in the world that have served as temples, churches, gathering places, etc. over centuries are stunning, as are the gardens that surround them with cacti and huge aloe plants.

In Syracusa, don't skip having an Aperol Spritz on a patio overlooking the ocean. If you can make it to Noto, take the afternoon to go to Cafe Sicilia for incredible pastries and, of course, granita. I'd never had granita before visiting Sicily and absolutely loved it - think artisanal water ice served with brioche. It's perfection alongside a cappuccino. Afterwards, walk down the street to the Cattedrale di San Nicolò to see the Sicilian Baroque architecture. Sitting on the steps, people watching while the sun went down, was one of my favorite moments of the trip.”
Emily, Junior Interior Designer | Summer Destination: Boston, MA

“Over Labor Day weekend, I took a trip to Boston for a friend’s birthday and had the best time! Dinner at Lola 42 was a highlight; the dishes are inspired by the 42° equator line, and both the food and service were incredible. Brunch at Sonsie was another favorite. I recommend sitting near the front for some views of Newbury Street before doing a bit of shopping. For a quick bite, Boqueria in Seaport had delicious tapas. And as for pastries, everything at Lakon Paris was so good!
As for activities, I recommend visiting the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. While it did get busy, it was really beautiful and definitely worth seeing. Afterward, walking through the Boston Public Garden and taking a ride on the Swan Boat felt like the perfect way to enjoy the city.”
Nathelie, Director of Operations & Brand | Summer Destination: Cape Cod, MA
”Over the summer, my family and I went to Cape Cod. We stayed at Chatham Bars Inn. It was everything you would expect from a quintessential New England summer: homes with cedar-shingle siding, hydrangeas everywhere, cups of chowder, calm bakes, and seal spotting. It was hot during the day and cool at night.
CBI has its own private beach for hotel guests, where we spent most of the days. It was calm and cool, great for seashell searching. My daughter is building an extensive collection! We took a little boat out to their private island, which was a highlight for my children, a boat ride first for my two-year-old.

My top spots: Mac's Seafood for lunch, Emack & Bolios for ice cream, Where the Sidewalk Ends Bookstore & Children's Annex, CBI Beach House Grill for dinner on the beach, and CBI Veranda for great snacks and live music (which my son loved since he’s guitar-obsessed).”
Anna, Technical Design Director | Summer Destination: Maine

“If you are looking for a perfect summer getaway to enjoy nature, I highly recommend a trip to Maine. I spent a few days there this summer and it was an ideal mix of relaxation and adventure. You can start your morning with a walk along the rocky coastline in Portland, then grab a lobster roll at The Highroller Lobster (dog friendly!). In the afternoon, head up to Acadia National Park, hiking the trails there gives you unbeatable ocean views. Check out Bar Harbor and grab a bite after a hike at one of the local shacks. Plan a trip to Rockland to catch a ferry to North Haven and explore the island's Turner Farm and Hopkins Wharf Gallery. It's the kind of trip that leaves you feeling recharged but also inspired to go back again and explore more.”
Diana, Marketing Coordinator | Summer Destination: California’s Central Coast
“At the end of summer, I flew back home to California for a week to see my friends and family in the Bay. My family and I ended up going on a mini vacation to our favorite part of the state: the Central Coast! We stayed in San Luis Obispo (SLO), and over the few days of our stay, we popped around to our favorite surrounding beach towns - Avila Beach and Cambria. (Honorable mention to Pismo Beach! We love it there too, but we just didn’t stop by on this trip.)
A trip to SLO wouldn’t be complete without the Thursday night farmer’s market. In peak summer, the streets are lined with local artists, jewelry makers, and plenty of baked goods. If you go, don’t miss the Santa Maria–style BBQ from the food vendors, a true California classic. Another can’t-miss stop: Mission San Luis Obispo, a milestone learning moment for every California kid.

Avila and Cambria are quick drives outside of SLO, each with its own character. Avila is the quintessential beach town. The fish tacos at Mr. Ricks are the best way to start a beach day. Cambria is a bit quieter, with one main street full of cozy spots. My favorite stop is Antiques on Main, three floors and rooms upon rooms of antique finds. It’s impossible for me to leave empty-handed!”
Derek, Design Intern | Summer Destination: Byram Park, CT
“I discovered a little park called Byram Park. It is only a 5-minute drive from my home, and I was surprised to find that despite the park's small size, it has a lot to offer. I initially came here for the view of the water, but I came across a pool open to the public, a nice little beach, and space for barbecuing. Unfortunately, the park closes after sunset, so I decided to come back the next day. Without hesitation, I drove to my local supermarket and purchased everything needed for a nice little picnic after work the following day. I bought some bread, cold cuts, sandwich toppings, and prepared a fresh hibiscus water.
Spending time by the water or being in nature brings me a real sense of peace. Standing on the beach, you can see Long Island across the horizon, with boats scattered along the water. I really enjoyed coming here, especially after work, to unwind. I'm not really a fan of beaches, but having access to one so close to home has changed my perspective. It would have been great to know about this sooner, but I see myself spending more time here next summer!”
